Early September Update

It is a new month and that seems like a good time for an update. It has been a productive past four weeks. I got a whole bunch of illustrations done, but in working on the next chapter I have also slightly expanded the scope of it. I expect to have the illustration end of it done next week. The written draft is finished outside of any remaining typos. Next I have two short motion graphic sequences to do in After Effects, and then sound. The programming part should be pretty trivial. This should all still be done this month. I'll add a chapter select next time.

I'm trying to resist the urge to overcomplicate and revise as it's one of my most glaring handicaps as an artist. However I started working on the VN version of this story over a year ago, and returning to the early chapters I'm finding the distance between where the style had grown and some early stuff to be inconsistent at best.

The 2nd chapter remains in the same bay, without much time having elapsed, and is basically meant to serve as an anatomy lesson. The original draft wasn't written with episodic release in mind and the scene is about the driest fake-science the story gets. After assembling a rough version of that in Ren'Py, it just read weak from a narrative aspect. After the rewrite, it's still short, but hopefully better.

While I was getting that reworked I made some new main menu illustrations. I hope to drip feed the lore of the world behind the documentary in the documentary itself, but these menu screens have been unexpectedly fun to make.

Initially I just did it because I like Evangelion haha. It has morphed into a little world-building thing of its own. I did one that's really good but I'm saving that for the chapter's release.

That's all that comes to mind right now. I didn't want to have total silence on my itch.io page because projects that go silent I usually assume have died. I appreciate the few people following right now, means a lot to me. Second chapter will be out in not too long.
