South Scrimshaw continues! Chapter 3 begins, free to read as always. 

This chapter will be arriving in two updates, with this first part being the calm before the hard times begin.

This update is a bit shorter than the others, but the next is longer. Because I didn’t have enough to do already I also added some more computer graphics to the main menu, which has been an unexpectedly fun form of world building.

General update:

I hope to have the complete chapter 3 uploaded by end of March. But I may have a couple large commissions lining up right now that would absorb most of my time. In my overall life goals I am always going to prioritize Scrimshaw, but I also still need to make enough money to eat and keep a roof over my head. This is the sort of work that buys me the free time I need to paint alien whales for my nine readers, so overall these delays are the good kind.

I have a great deal of the art done for the rest of the chapter so my work is partially cut out for me. Instead of going radio silent between full updates I’m going to post more process work in the meantime. I’ll try to post on twitter more if you’re there too. Part of my ambition starting this project was to get better at watercolor. The past couple months feels like the first time all this accumulate effort has coalesced into things feeling not constantly impossible. I still have a ways to go to where I want to be but it’s a very good feeling that the latest work I can share feels like some of the best I’ve been able to make.

On a personal note, at this point it’s probably a tired cliche to comment on the difficulties of 2020. Everyone has problems. But the bit of positivity I’ve received so far on this has been the bright point during some real darkness, so I hope you all enjoy the stuff I have coming up too. Happy belated New Year.
